Why are the arts important in your home?

"Art is the most intense mode of individualism that the world has known."
Oscar Wilde

"I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world."
Albert Einstein

I love the quotes that go with today's question. I want you, my children, to feel free to be individuals. I want you to be able to create something entirely your own because you like it and you want it to be that way.

I want you to be exposed to many beautiful, wonderful things in your life. Literature, music, visual art. I want you to be able to view the work of different artists and appreciate why each is beautiful. I want you to be moved by your favorite song, to not be able to put down your favorite book because you've fallen in love with the words.

I don't know now what your interests will be or what you will excel in, but I hope that you find something you can create with your own hands and that you enjoy doing so. To create something, whichever type of art it may be is so very rewarding and gives you fulfillment in life. Of course, YOU are the best thing I have created. As I look at you now, you are so perfect, so sweet and precious. You make me laugh everyday and I love watching you learn, explore and grow. You make my life complete.

As you've probably heard your Daddy complain about, my favorite art to create right now is knitted art. Knitting vests for Christmas and dressing you up in them was so fun! I know it takes forever and can be challenging and under appreciated, but when I'm finished with my knitting project, it's so rewarding to have that accomplishment that I can hold in my hands and admire. Your Dad feels the same way with his projects. He was so proud of the picnic table and shed he built when we were first married. I hope that you one day can find something you enjoy creating and are proud of.
